Prof. Abiodun Akinwuntan

Abiodun Akinwuntan, Ph.D., MPH, MBA, MIH, FASAHP, FACRM, FAMedS, FNAP received his bachelor’s degree from the College of Medicine, University of Lagos in 1994, a master’s degree and a doctoral degree in neurological rehabilitation from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium, in 2000 and 2004 respectively. He earned a master’s degree in public health in 2012 and a master’s degree in business administration in 2015 both from Augusta University, Ga. He completed a Master of International Health from the Institute of International Medicine in Kansas City, MO. Professor Akinwuntan is the Dean of the School of Health Professions at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. His research is on the use of virtual-reality technologies to improve daily living activities in neurologically impaired persons. He has published >110 peer-reviewed scholarly works and received funded grants totaling >$15 million. Professor Akinwuntan is a three-time recipient of the prestigious United States Fulbright Awards, a Fellow of four professional organizations, and serves on the board of directors of four professional bodies.

Being an engineer with passion for value addition, when the President signed the Nigerian Local Content Act in 2010, he was seconded to cover the duties of Deputy Manager, Capacity Building, Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. He retired from government work at the statutory age of 60 years on 17th September, 2015. His over thirty-three (33) years’ meritorious service to humanity and experience was in the Oil and Gas industry in Oil Refining Operations and Local Capacity Development, Nigerian Content.

Being an engineer with drive for mentoring and development, he joined the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineer as a Student member in 1980 and became a Corporate member of the Society in 1989 and later became a Fellow of the Society in 2012.  He is also a member of Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and is registered with the Council for regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).

In 1981 when he finished from Ile-Ife, he was posted to Kaduna for his NYSC where he joined The First Baptist Church, Kaduna and to the glory of God he was ordained a deacon in the church in the year 2003. Prior to this time, he had served in various organizations of the church since 1982.

Since retirement in 2015, he has been on his own and doing mission work with the Church and Global Mission Board of the Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC). He is also a member of Gideons International in Nigeria.

Engr. R. A. Rufai is happily married with Godly children.
